The South African Health Product Regulatory Authority has recalled two batches of Benylin pediatric cough syrup
Containing high levels of diethylene glycol which is toxic to humans when consumed and can prove fatal.
Toxic effects can include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, inability to pass urine, headache, altered mental state, and acute kidney injury that may lead to death.
