TOPIC: LACK OF VALUE – THE PITFALL OF ESAU
SCRIPTURE: Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birth right. GENESIS 25: 34.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Anyone who does not value the reason for his existence is going to end in regrets like Esau.
It has been established that character determines destiny; your manners determine your meaning.
How you matter on earth is a product of your manners. Esau and Jacob were separated from the womb on the basis of their manners.
Now, what was the problem of Esau?
It was the problem of lack of character. What is it that made Esau characterless?
It is the Lack of value for his birth right.
Esau had no value for his birth right. He had no regard for his inheritance and his destiny. He had no regard for what he represented to his generation.
Genesis 25: 34 says:
Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birth right.
Esau got on a platter of gold the heritage of God’s covenant with Abraham, his grandfather. While Jacob struggled to get it by cunning devices, it was meant for Esau by inheritance; he got it on a platter of gold. But Esau had no value for it. He did not value his birth right, his heritage and destiny.
Beloved, you must understand what you represent to your generation. God created you with a purpose in mind. You must discover, value and fulfil that purpose for you to live a meaningful life. This is because anyone who does not value the reason for his existence is going to end in regrets like Esau.
Esau did not know that the God who made Abraham and Isaac great could also make him great. He lacked this understanding because of his lack of character. No wonder, he sold his future because of hunger.
Beloved, if you lack a sense of value for your heritage, if you have no value for your destiny, you will lose it. Men who fulfil destiny are men who value it. Refuse to be like Esau.
REMEMBER THIS: Anyone who does not value the reason for his existence is going to end in regrets like Esau.
ASSIGNMENTS:
- Refuse to be like Esau who had no value for his birth right.
- Give priority attention to God’s Purpose for your life and make up your mind to fulfil it.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to place value on Your Word and purpose for my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
